At the heart of every 2012 Mitsubishi Montero is one of the toughest engines on the road today. Both the barebones Montero XLS model and the more sophisticated Montero Limited model come standard with 3.8-liter, cast-iron, SOHC, 24-valve V-6 engines that produce 215 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and deliver 248 pounds-per-foot of torque at 3,250 rpm. That, however, is just the beginning. Read any recent 2012 “Mitsubishi Montero” review and you’ll see critics also cooing about the Montero transmission – a Sportronic sequential shift 5-speed automatic with Adaptive Shift Control. The truck offers front independent double wishbone suspension with coil springs, and rear independent multi-link suspension with coil springs as well.
It’s hard to imagine anything weighing 4,600 pounds as light on its feet. But with a unibody construction giving it a low center of gravity, and precise, responsive steering, the Montero floats like a butterfly over the tough stuff. Other Mitsubishi Montero safety features include: rack-and-pinion steering, RISE unibody chassis, front and rear crumple zones, Active Trac drive system, MultiMode anti-lock braking system, and the Mitsubishi Active Skid and Traction Control System.
