Reviewers rate the 2012 Lincoln MKX well for its posh interior, smooth ride and high-tech features, despite handling that’s merely adequate and doubts about its new touch-screen media interface.

The MKX has gained some noteworthy technologies, such as a new 3.7-liter V6. The new 3.7-liter Duratec V6 comes equipped with Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) to increase horsepower and torque without a drop in fuel economy compared to the outgoing 3.5-liter V6. This new V6 provides best-in-class power and torque for a V6 - total horsepower rings in at 305 at 6500 rpm - a 15 percent bump, and torque totals 280 lb-ft at 4000 rpm. for a 12 percent improvement. straight-line performance, somewhere in the neighborhood of 8.0 seconds to 60 mph, and a top speed in the 125-mph range.

The new MKX also features a new six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission, which delivers EPA certified best-in-class fuel economy in the city and highway. The new MKX achieves 19 city, and 26 miles per gallon on the highway - both figures being the best in their class.

Safety scores have moderated a bit, but the MKX is still one of the safest vehicles you can buy. The NHTSA gives it four stars overall; the IIHS calls it a Top Safety Pick. Stability control and curtain airbags are standard, as are blind-spot monitors, a rearview camera, and Bluetooth.
